Masterson’s Tavern , located in the heart of Moonee Ponds , brands itself as a fashionable, contemporary hangout, but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I encountered behind its entrance was appalling and beyond comprehension .
The State of Affairs: Squalid and Disregarded
From the moment I crossed the threshold, it was immediately obvious that upkeep was not a priority at this venue. The floors were sticky , and a nauseating aroma of uncleaned spills and neglected washrooms suffused the entire establishment . Emitting a scent of a mixture of human waste, putrefaction and a sickly smell. The bar area , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was littered with unwashed glassware and trash that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The bathroom was in even worse condition —overflowing , with a broken handle and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was human waste .
It wasn’t just a rare instance either. Described as overly aggressive and boundary-crossing , his behavior has created an intimidating space for women who visit Masterson’s.
